Sessions & Frequently Asked Questions
When you decide to book a session with me, I believe the most important thing is for you to love your pictures, and walk away from our session feeling confident that we got all the shots you hoped for.
Booking a Session:
We will begin with a pre-session email/phone consultation where we will tailor your session to meet your needs. We'll discuss the purpose of your session and your expectations, what to expect from me, as well as help you decide what would be the appropriate attire, what to bring and the location for your session.
To ensure your preferred date, I would suggest booking a few weeks to a month in advance. 100% of the session fee will be collected upon booking, to lock your date and time. If you wish to have newborn portraits done, please schedule them within the first two weeks after birth. We will work together around your due date, to ensure that the pictures are taken within that time frame. It's never too early to start thinking about Holiday portraits. I typically begin booking them in August, and go right through the middle of December.
Location:
The location of your portraits is very flexible. We can shoot in your home, in my studio, or at any favorite park or outdoor location. The bottom line is, I want to shoot you and your family in your own element, where we can get some posed shots and also those unforgettable candid shots that you will treasure forever.
What to wear:
Keep it simple and coordinating. Not matchy, matchy! Try to stay away from any distracting patterns or designs. For kids, put them in something fun that reflects their personalities.
Post Session:
Your photos will be available for viewing in an online, password protected gallery 2 weeks after your shoot date (3 weeks in the fall and busy season). They will be viewable for 10 days. You will then be able to order prints, or purchase a cd containing the edited images and printing rights and print your own photos.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the best way to prepare for an in home child/newborn session?
-
Since I prefer to shoot in natural light, it would be best to have furniture moved, so your best windows and natural light sources are not blocked. I will shoot all over your house and we will shoot outside it weather permits.
For newborns it is best to raise the temperature in your house slightly, because we will be shooting most of the shots in minimal clothing. Try to keep them awake and unfed 2 hours prior to the shoot. Right before the shoot we will strip them down and feed them to sleep. We will take as many feeding and changing breaks as needed. For older babies and children, make sure they are fed and well rested prior to the shoot.
- What is the best time to photograph my newborn?
-
The best age to photograph a newborn is within the first 2 weeks of life. This way they are still small and nimble enough to bend into cute poses, and they sleep most of the time.
- When is the best time to schedule my maternity portraits?
-
That is very dependent on the person, but I generally suggest between 28 and 36 weeks.
